{"id":225,"date":"2010-02-02T18:32:24","date_gmt":"2010-02-02T23:32:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/random-musings.org\/?p=225"},"modified":"2023-07-25T21:13:59","modified_gmt":"2023-07-26T02:13:59","slug":"groundhog-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/random-musings.org\/index.php\/2010\/02\/02\/groundhog-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Groundhog Day"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Yet again we consult the mystical rodent known only as Punxsutawney Phil, a rodent who has apparently lived for over 100 years.\u00a0 He, and only he, can tell us whether winter will continue for another six weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" src=\"http:\/\/random-musings.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Punxsutawney_Phil_01.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-655\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">I don&#8217;t know why they call this rodent &#8220;Punxsutawney Phil&#8221;.&nbsp; Why the hell couldn&#8217;t they have gone down the road just a short distance, to Albion?&nbsp; Albion Phil doesn&#8217;t have the same ring to it, but surely &#8220;Albion Algernon&#8221; or something would do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Every year, legions of journalists have to go look up how to spell &#8220;Punxsutawney&#8221;, because it is such an oddball word, and so infrequently used.&nbsp; This doesn&#8217;t apply to the fine citizens of Punxsutawney, who of course know how to spell the name of their own town.&nbsp; I apologize to both of you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Yet again, Punxsutawney Phil has come out of his hole, seen his shadow, and predicted that winter will last another six weeks.&nbsp; I have to say that we probably don&#8217;t need the services of a prophetic rodent to make this determination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Groundhog day takes place on February 2.&nbsp; Winter ends on March 19.&nbsp; You do the math.&nbsp; It comes out to six weeks and change.&nbsp; I don&#8217;t care if Phil comes out wearing a Hawaiian shirt and sun glasses, with a little pi\u00f1a&nbsp; colada to sip.&nbsp; It&#8217;s still six more weeks of winter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yet again we consult the mystical rodent known only as Punxsutawney Phil, a rodent who has apparently lived for over 100 years.\u00a0 He, and only he, can tell us whether winter will continue for another six weeks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[30],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-225","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-rants"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/random-musings.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/225","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/random-musings.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/random-musings.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/random-musings.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/random-musings.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=225"}],"version-history":[{"count":6,"href":"https:\/\/random-musings.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/225\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":660,"href":"https:\/\/random-musings.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/225\/revisions\/660"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/random-musings.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=225"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/random-musings.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=225"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/random-musings.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=225"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
