{"id":260,"date":"2012-10-08T19:22:09","date_gmt":"2012-10-09T00:22:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/random-musings.org\/?p=260"},"modified":"2023-07-25T21:10:11","modified_gmt":"2023-07-26T02:10:11","slug":"roach-eating-contest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/random-musings.org\/index.php\/2012\/10\/08\/roach-eating-contest\/","title":{"rendered":"Roach Eating Contest"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-us-canada-20503586\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Man dies after winning roach-eating contest in Broward<\/a> :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The contest was to win a python from a pet store.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">You know, it&#8217;s one thing to drop dead after running a marathon. &nbsp;Even if you didn&#8217;t finish, if you got close to the end people will generally give you credit for trying. &nbsp;They figure, &#8220;well, he dropped dead, but he was doing something really hard.&#8221; &nbsp;At least, that&#8217;s how I figure it when I read about the annual &#8220;people dropping dead during or after marathon&#8221; stories.&nbsp; They always say that the guy was young, in good health, they can&#8217;t figure out why he dropped dead. &nbsp;I&#8217;ll tell you why: running is bad for you. &nbsp;But I digress&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">When you drop dead after eating too many roaches, you don&#8217;t get any respect at all. &nbsp;This guy will be remembered long after his death, much longer than if he had survived the roach-eating &nbsp;contest. &nbsp;He&#8217;ll always be, &#8220;Isn&#8217;t he the guy who dropped dead after eating a gazillion roaches?&#8221; &nbsp;What a claim to fame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">And he didn&#8217;t even get the python.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Man dies after winning roach-eating contest in Broward : The contest was to win a python from a pet store.
