Indonesia is famous for its exotic spices and its wonderful coffee. And…
There is something called “kopi luwak,” or “civet coffee.” It’s $400 per pound or more. This is coffee made from beans that a civet had eaten and excreted. The beans are retrieved from the feces, washed, and roasted. It is said that this coffee is unusually smooth and tasty. I don’t plan to find out.
What puzzles me is, who ever thought of preparing coffee that way? I mean, you see coffee beans coming out the wrong end of a civet, and think, “Ya know, I bet that would make a delicious cup of coffee?” Who does this?
