I get a little uneasy when the issue of good and evil arises. It is often unclear what is good or evil. There can be many reasons why something that appears evil is actually good, and vice versa. But there are also some actions that are just evil.
The atrocities committed on October 7th, 2023, were evil. Terrorists invaded Israeli towns and kibbutzim. They attacked civilians, raped, murdered, kidnapped, mutilated, and burned them alive. They made videos of their atrocities, and laughed as they did it.
This is evil. There is no other way to describe these actions. It is not someone defending himself against an attack. It is not something that can be justified. It is simply evil.
And yet, throughout the world, millions of people celebrated wildly, supporting “Palestine” and Hamas, celebrating an atrocity that harks back to the Nazis of World War II. These victims were not collateral damage. They were not unfortunate civilians caught in a battle between soldiers, accidentally harmed during the fighting. They were not collateral damage; they were the targets. And after all of that, there were little outrage.
But when Israel went after Hamas, there was a great outcry at civilians being harmed. Those civilians were collateral damage. The target was Hamas. And yet, Israel was condemned for committing “genocide.” This is bullshit.
The viciousness of the attacks against Israel and Jews caught me by surprise. I am not naive enough to believe that Jews aren’t hated in many places. I was surprised, though, to find how much hatred there was here in the US. Even more surprising was who was doing most of the hating – it was the Left. I don’t think it was the far Left; just people leaning to the Left. Many Democrats, for example, not Communists or Socialists. So-called “Liberals” who spouted vile hatred against Jews, sometimes honestly, sometimes couched in noble-sounding sentiments of humanitarian motives. These humanitarian sentiments only applied to terrorists, though. For the Jews, there was no compassion.
Israel has gone far beyond what is reasonable in their efforts to avoid civilian casualties. They have endangered their own soldiers by announcing where they intend to attack, giving time for civilians to evacuate. They have the lowest civilian to combatant ratio of any army in urban warfare, and yet they are condemned for civilian casualties.
When pagers used by Hezbollah exploded, Israel was criticized that they broke international law. There were some children who were killed. They were condemned for these deaths. What was left unspoken was the fact that this strike was about as focused as is humanly possible. Almost no one besides Hezbollah terrorists was injured. The ratio of civilian to combatant deaths was almost zero. And yet Israel is condemned.
Israel’s crime is not that they have killed civilians. Their “crime” is that they have been effective in defending their people and country. It is the “crime” of them not rolling over and playing dead, but instead rising up to strike whoever does them harm. It is the “crime” of doing what any other country in the world would do, if attacked as Israel had been.
This isn’t just a fight between countries or even religions. This is literally a fight between good and evil. The world has completely lost any moral compass it might once have had. Justice, goodness, fairness – all have been abandoned by the vast majority of the nations. The forces of evil are in control of most nations..
