Tens of millions of people in the US believe in bullshit. Somehow, these people believe that the 2020 presidential election was rigged, that there was a massive conspiracy to steal the election from Trump, and that Trump will soon be reinstated to office.
All of the evidence to the contrary – the endless losses in court, the complete lack of evidence, the unchanged results of recounts – all of this is dismissed as part of the conspiracy. Even the Supreme Court is considered to be prejudiced against Trump, even though he seated three of the justices. He lost by unanimous decision, not just by a majority.
Following the 2016 election, many of us were angry that, despite winning the popular vote, the election went to Trump because of the Electoral College. At the time the winners jeered at us to just suck it up and get over it. And we did.
So as far as I’m concerned, these guys can suck it up and get over it.
However, this madness has turned into violence. A serious effort was made to overturn the election through overthrowing the government was made on January 6th of this year. People died. People tore down the American flag, in order to replace them with Trump flags. These were not patriots. They were criminals. All their bullshit about saving America or making America great again was bullshit. They couldn’t care less about America. They just want their king to reign.
I am worried about this country. This situation strikes me as being unstable. There are still militant groups out there, prepared to do battle. The mob in January was unorganized, poorly prepared to do anything except trash some offices. Next time, they might be better organized, and they might start a civil war.
What I find particularly saddening is the person these people have chosen to follow.
